TRANSITION PROGRAM

BARNABAS HOUSE

Barnabas House opened in 2015 as a transition program where young men could be supported by a live-in life coach, finish their education, develop career and financial skills, and be overall prepared to become thriving adults. This program has seen huge success and continues to be the model for all our transition homes. This home is recognized as the first transition home to open in Polk County for young men aging out of foster care. This program was designed due to Dr. Davis’ desire to change the harrowing statistics about youth coming out of foster care. An article published by the National Foster Care Institute in 2017, states that after reaching the age of 18, 20% of children will become instantly homeless, and only 50% of foster kids will have some form of gainful employment by age 24. An astonishing 60% of males will be convicted of a crime and 70% of females who age out will become pregnant before the age of 21.

HIGHLAND HOUSE

Due to the tremendous success of the Barnabas House, another house was added to open the doors of opportunity to others who were aging out of foster care.  Highland House opened in 2016 and serves males ages 18-24 as they prepare for adulthood. As education is a key focus in our transition program, this home is strategically located near Polk State College. Acording to the Florida Department of Children and Families’ 2020-2021 data, only 9.5% of those who age out of care have completed high school or their GED when they turn 18 years old and there is a less than 3% chance that they will earn a college degree. Our mission at Anchor House is to give each one of these young people the opportunity and tools to complete their education venture into the world as capable adults.

CATHERINE HOUSE

Our first home to support transitioning females, ages 18-24, was opened in 2018. This home has become a sanctuary for many young ladies who would otherwise be homeless.

SENG HOUSE

Dr. Seng provided a large donation enabling Anchor House to complete the purchase of the 4th house. Our newest transition home is a bridge to independence even within our program. The young men who reside here have a higher level of maturity and are getting ready to take the next leap to independence and self-sufficiency.
